This is a standard rig used by carp fisherman, although they use a different type of indicator called a "monkey climber". They are used with electronic bite indicators that both beep and flash when you get a bite.

I am with DB4D on this one. Carp fishermen in Ohio have been using rigs like this for at least 20 years. Very effective. For Crappie though, I will stay with a slip float setup.

so what happens when a fish takes .....does the bobber just slip on the line ?
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
You leave the bobber clip open, offset it away from the hole and onto the bobber body, once you got it hooked good you can take a second to remove it!!
I can see that working for catfisherman but not crappie fishing from the bank. I would rather trust a slip cork or rod tip over that set up.
Ima gonna try it out at our dock. I use a comal cigar slip floats and walk away doing other stuff. I glance at the bobba on occasion. Sometimes the bobba just disappears to irritate me. This bobba indicator rig might save me a trip around the deck.
Never seen this before or never paid it any attention.Interesting.

There was a thread on spider rigging that suggested using a bead a large enough to not pass through the line guides. When you get a bite you hear the bead click on the rod. Rig all my rigging rods that way now.
