Yes, I think that is right. But the land owner doesn't own the water under the pier/dock.

It is private property. I personally do not care if it is fished or if someone has to get on it to retrieve a lure. But like it is stated not everybody feels like I do. Every state has different laws so call your game wardens if you have problem with a home owner.
sinkermaker you remember the fellow on Murray who had the dock with the barbed wire and the game warden made him take it off and then put sprinkers on it that he could turn on from inside the house? We caught fish there but never had a run in with him but I heard he had so many confrontations with folks he got in trouble.

No I don't. There are some weirdos on this lake. I have had a couple come down and talk trash. I just ignore them and keep on fishing.

Crappie Buster warned me about the sprinkler dock at Clouds Creek.
Seems he thinks he owns the water around his dock. Might be the same guy. He has put yellow plastic fencing like you see used for erosion control around the dock so you can't cast under it. Takes all kind to make the world I guess.

I had a run in with a property owner several years ago,he would raise the dickens with anyone fishing the water along his property,I was in a boat,he called the law,he lost.In my home state, the land owner owns the dirt, but not the water( this was a river ) the law told him as long as the fisherman doesn't touch ground,it was public water,a dock would be considered the land owners, and off limits to the public.

I don't let them kind bother me much ....I move on if they seem ugly . but most I have met are pretty nice . one owner I have seen the last two trips has been really friendly . he even ran down to his dock when he saw me there alone pitching under it the last trip . he was all excited I was back and asked me like 300 questions about the crappie under his dock and how to ketch them .
mind ya if they get to not so nice the TPW has a zero tolerance for harassment of hunters and anglers legally pursuing fish and game , so if they present to much of an issue I do have the TPW on speed dial .....

After meeting with the game warden, sheriff and much decernment , I've decided to leave this battle alone. Just last night I spoke with another guy that got into a shouting match with him the other week. It is sad that he has nothing to do but harrass fishermen. The game warden has noted the incident and asked that anybody else with encounters report it. So he can build a solid case.

The guy sounds like a nut job and it sounds like he must not fish. Where I live, you don't need permits etc to put a dock in. The dock, and my boats tied to it, are considered my property. My place is known as a good bassing area since my lake front is all lily pads. I enjoy watching guys fish in front of my place to see if they are catching anything. I'll usually go out and talk to them. Also, I can't count how many times I've also seen guys having motor problems and have given them a tow back to the ramp. I figure what goes around, comes around. It never hurts to be friendly.

Seems this whole thread is about a lack of respect, both fishermen and land owners.

If that guy wants to control the water so bad he needs to dig a pond.
