Seth welcome from the KC area Prairie Village to be exact.
It sounds like there is open water down there for you to catch fish. I have fished both Big Hill and the Card Creek, Elk River area running into the Elk City Reservoir a few times.
I was curious if you caught your bigger fish at Elk City or Big Hill. With my limited experience down there I would guess you caught your bigger fish at Elk City.
Anyhow good to hear someone is catching them. I'm interested in hearing as many details as you want to share but fully understand any reluctance on sharing info. Since on my home lake at Hillsdale it can get quite crowded once the word gets out where the fish are bitting.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

In response to the local fishing conditions. I fished Big Hill over near Cherryvale Ks last spring/summer/fall and caught several but they seamed to be small with very few slabs. I started fishing Elk City after the first of Feburary (ran out of fish in the freezer). I noticed trucks parked near the spill way on the lake side of the dam. I have not fished for over two hours in the last several trips. We went yesterday and caught 6 small ones in 20 25 min (over son's nap time). The best we did was 2-13. We got there at 1400 and left around 1530. We caught 33 w/ 12 or so over 1 lb. NICE slabs I was stoked. I hear there are big one in Elk City (like 2-3 lbs) but they seem to cycle every 3-4 years. I have been catching them around 12 feet on any combo w/ white, pink/white mostly.
