I pour my own and have painted and nekked in the box, even in the same compartment. Some colors I don't use anymore and others do well ---at times---so I always have a few on hand. Another tool in the box.

Like Skeetbum I pour my own plastics and prefer barbless unpainted jigheads. In fact I won't use a painted head because of my superstition that I want the fish to focus on the lure and not the leadhead color. I may file a bit of lead to create a shiny dot on each side of the head to create a bit of flash, but the lure is always key as is jighead weight and hook size. (note the wire grub keeper attached to the jig.)

do your own test use 2-3 different colors and then use plain see how it works for you .I have done that and painted has out fished un painted the last couple of years probably 4-1 but that's been what's worked For me everybody to their own I guess.

Don't forget : even though the jig head is unpainted, it still has a "color" !! Shiny new lead is silver, and old/oxidized lead is grey.

I've used unpainted (weedless) jigheads for casting ... probably over 30yrs. I've just recently started pushing jigs on long rods, and use painted heads & unpainted heads (non-weedless) ... but haven't done it long enough to detect any major difference in the number of bites. I probably won't, either, since I rarely use the same color jig bodies on any two rods at the same time. And what time I have pushed with painted jigs, I've never had any particular color outdo the others being used during that time. (not yet, anyway !!)

I use only unpainted. I do OK. It all boils down to a confidence thing. If you believe a pink (or any other color) head will catch you more fish, more power to you. The jig head is merely the weight to take your plastic/live bait down to the depth the fish are at. Once there, the speed at which you move that bait is the second most important factor in success. Color is way down on the list of presentation options you can control - just my opinion.

Painted jig heads catch fishermen. When you are confident in something you will use it more. All living things have eyes and big fish eat little fish. Those are facts of life. I have fished both but will usually put a painted one with eyes on the line first to add a little contrasting color to attract the fish and just because I have a lot of confidence in using them. Pink with no eyes (If I am using a minnow, hand tied jig, or plastic bait with eyes) or Chartreuse with eyes are the ones I have the most confidence in. Whatever you are using fish it slow and then slow it down some more. A crappie nibble or liquid scent will put the odds in your favor.

I ALWAYS HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE COFIDENT IN IS WHAT THEY BITE,THAT HAS ONLY SOME TRUTH,NOT ALL TRUTH,YOU CAN HAVE COFIDENCE IN A BAIT AND NOT BE CATCHING FISH ,CHANGE TO A BAIT THAT YOU NEVER CAUGHT FISH WITH AND THEY SLAM IT THEN YOU GET CONFIDENCE IN IT,BUT WAIT ,YOU CAUGHT THEM BEFORE YOU HAD CONFIDENCE IN IT BUT WAS JUST LOOKING OUT OF DESPERATION.LETS FACE IT WHEN BUDDY IS OUT FISHING YOU THEN YOU TRY TO COPY HIM ,LURE SIZE,COLOR ,HIS MOVE,HIS SPEED,NOW HAVING SAID THATMANY TIMES WIFE AND ME WILL SET OVER BP AND NOT MOVE BAIT AND WHEN ONE IS STILL CATCHING MOST FISH AND IS DIFFERENT COLOR BAIT,OR HEAD ,YOU SOON KNOW THAT DAY COLOR MAKES A DIFFERENT IF YOU CHANGE TO COLOR HEAD LIKE SHE HAS AND YOU START CATCHING MORE FISH.LIKE I SAID ,NOT EVERY DAY BUT SOME DAYS A LOT OF DIFFERENT,SO TO TEST IT 5 DAYS WITH NO DIFFERENT DOES NOT MEAN ON THE 6 DAY WILL BE NO DIFFERENT EITHER,FISH ARE LIKE WOMEN WHEN YOU THINK YOU GOT THEM FIGURED OUT THEN YOU RELAIZE HOW DUMB YOU REALLY ARE

sometimes it matter but most of the time it does not .....confidence typically makes folks better at whatever ....so if paint makes you confident go that route ....like mentioned before i have seen a few times in the winter i could sell a pink head jig for 10 bucks quite easily ....

Sounds like turkey calls. What works one day may fall flat the next and vice versa. Guess I'll just stock up on both!
