Just be careful and first thing you do is tell the officer that you are carrying. Do exactly what the officer says.
I carry when I walk at night and some neighbors call the police thinking that I am a prowler. First thing I do is tell that I have a CC and am carrying. The officer thanks me and then we have good conversation about why I am walking at 4 AM.

As high as tensions are right now if I am stopped I will turn off the engine and lay my keys on the dash. When the officer walks up I'll have my hands on the steering wheel and I'll inform the officer I have a permit and that there is a loaded firearm in the vehicle. The officer will already know I have a permit because it will show on my license info when he runs my plates.
This may seem silly to some folks but it should put the officer at ease that you're upfront about the weapon and he will let you know how to proceed from there.
DO NOT FORGET THE GUN IS IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND OPEN IT TO GET THE CARS REGISTRATION

My son has his permit as well as I do. When he pulled up to a license check, he gave the officer his driver's and carry license. The officer asked him why he gave him the carry license? He said he just wanted to see how they would react to it. The officer just asked what gun he carries and told him what he carries off duty and said have safe drive.
Officers I have dealt with seem they are truely in favor of carrying a firearm. Just as others have already pointed out....that should be the FIRST thing out of our mouths when we get pulled over. Even before an introduction. Then tell the cop where it is located. And if its ANYWHERE close to the registration or license inform the cop before ya go reaching for anything. The cops are here for all of US. But we all must understand their point of view. Its impossible to draw on a "drawn gun" so the cops NEED to keep that advantage. So he will not put himself in a position to where SOMEONE can draw a gun and have the advantage. And we all would do the same if we were in uniform. I definitely would not inform a cop that there is a gun on board and then start getting confrontational and being a smart ellic. Things will escalate quickly. This is just what I have seen from where im from. I do understand cultures and the way people act are different in different areas. But where im from a cop will lay down his life for you if your in trouble. They truely love the people they look after and the people around here love the cops.....UNLESS THEY ARE A CRIMINAL! I'm for EVERYONE that is a law abiding citizen to carry a firearm and they are extremely welcome in my house! Ethnicity does not matter! If a cop makes it to us in response to a call in 5 minutes (which is a really good response time) alot can still happen in that short 5 minutes before the cop gets there. We must all make sure we are able to protect ourselves during that "response time".
You have to remember also, response time is a goal, not a guarritee. The officer could be on a traffic stop, other moderate to serious call, processing a scene, or on the other side of town. Small departments are lucky to have more than two working a shift, and that will be during the day. The majority of the time at late night, they are solo.
There is no excuse for unlawful actions for anyone, including law enforcement. The overwhelming majority of officers I've known will without hesitation place themselves in harms way for anyone in the public. However, you must remember they deal with unknowns. While you know your thoughts and future actions , they do not unless you clearly communicate with officers.
Chaunc, your welcome in my boat anytime, wheather you are armed are not. Just what caliber do you carry to coup de Grau those monster goos.
