For me, space is a premium. I prefer a tiller. Side council and center council suck up fishing space. Maybe if I had a 22' boat, it might be an option. But on a 16' Ill stick to a tiller.

Might want to look at the deep v's, with a side console. I troll 99% of the time, have a 16.5' deep v side console, I sit in the passenger side seat while trolling with the TM or with the 60hp OB. I have rod holders on all four corners of the boat but can move 'em all up front or to the back in 5 minutes, easy to step up onto the low front deck (much lower than bass style boats), don't have to crawl over the seats to get to the rear storage compartments, rod holders, etc. Just walk around the boat in a normal fashion IMO. Only time I go up front is to deploy/stow the TM, and go sit back down in the lower part of the boat.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Center console all the way, plenty of room to get to all sides of the boat.

Depends on the boat. A cc bay boat with rod box up front is a very nice layout. I ordered a War Eagle and added a rod/gun box, on the side console you still have a lot of room, on the center it gets tight on the box side.

I like the 961 War Eagle, but the Excel 203 Bay model is nice too. Just concerned about the bow width on the Excel.

This pic might change your mind on the Excel. Mine is 49 inches wide at the point my 3 pedestal bases are mounted on the bow.

I recently bought a used bass tracker panfish version. It is a front stick steer and I love it! No console!!

Looks good. The dealer near me has one with a 140 Suzuki on the back.
