I only use snap swivels for trolling to make it easy to change out baits.

For barrel swivels, I will use them for any lure that spins since high sensitivity isn't really needed. I also use them between the main line and leader for slip bobber fishing.

I once trolled a inline spinner without a barrel swivel. What a mess it was with all the line twists.

If pulling cranks, I use 18" of 10 lb test fluorocarbon. Single pole is 18-24" of either mono or fluoro. When single poling, I put my egg sinker above the swivel with a bobber stop above weight. May use a small split-shot 6-8" above jig/minnow depending on depth.

Here you go Royalwapiti... You want the "Black Fas-Snap X-Large". Do not get the smaller ones and don't get the Silver Ones because they are hard as heck to put the bait on and off. I haven't fished without one in over 5 years. You can get them from Bass Pro here is a link Site Maintenance Best to you. Those who say "Never" & "Don't" you can listen to them if you like. I can change baits faster & do more. But hey to each their own. Ya won't catch me not using them for Crappie. I Vertical Jig, I catch them Open Water, I pitch to them, I "Cast" to them. I also catch Striper, & Sand Bass on them while Crappie Fishing. Live live your own way. It's your fishing trip Royal.

OH WAIT!!!!!!!!! I have even caught like 20 + Crappie that spit the Hook and got the darn Fas-Snap caught in the groove of their lip wedged in that were not even hooked. Absolutely no lie and did that again on yesterday 3-3-24 when somehow 50 Crappie ended up in my boat.

I like to use swivels when tying on a leader. A couple of small tungsten weights above and it’s great for live scoping. Makes it very easy to see your line!

12 LB mono , loop knot , leader is 24-36 inches. another plus for me is when I see the bead hit the top of the water , I can start my " swing" of the
    fish into the boat.

[QUOTE=Royalwapiti;3175597]When do you use swivels? I know they are convenient and all but also can inhibit action on some lures and jigs.

Do you use them on all the crappie type jigs? lead head with tubes, twister tails, feathers, etc?

Are there any certain type of jigs you don't use them on?

I usually don't video anymore when I actually fish I just so the carnage after. Here is a video I did after having some customer baits made click it and tell me what do you see in the fish mouth linked to the jig. Dat durr would be a Fas-Snap Swivel Sir. I've thousands of fish with a swivel and will "NOT FISH WITH ONE FOR CRAPPIE".
