I have managed to ketch quite a few of both species ....rock bass up north and warmouth down south
that fish is a warmouth for sure and they actually can get pretty large .....look up the records on them in some states
I was surprised they got that big ....I have never seen one get really big ....maybe a pound max ...

I'm with the consensus - definitely a Warmouth Bass. We call them Goggle Eye in this area. I've seen many fly over my head after they hit a plastic worm and I think I'm crossing the eyes of a green carp. My boy has a knack for catching warmouth and gets at least one almost every time we go brim fishing. If you ever keep missing strikes in the same spot when fishing for bass, there's a real good chance that there's a warmouth at home in that spot.

Yeah I have to admit I was very disappointed when I pulled him out of the water, for as much fight as he gave I really thought he would have been bigger. He was about 7 or 8 inches long and gave my light spinning gear heck. lol

We get rockbass from the shorelines of Lake Erie in both Ohio and PA in mid spring. They get pretty good size too. Some up to 13". Best tasting if you don't freeze them. No problem catching close to a hundred a day too.

They may live in different type waters, but around here we catch Warmouth in our lakes, too. We do have Rock Bass, according to the field guide from the KDFWR, but to my knowledge I've never caught one. Our state record Rock Bass (1lb 10oz) came from a creek that flows into Green River Lake. Our state record Warmouth (1lb 6oz) came from a farm pond.
