Doesn't it seem like when a new bait or rod and reel is on the market you just have to try it? I do.It must be something like drugs you just have to have it. Of course with fishing equipment there are know side effects. This is by far the best site for information on Crappie Fishing! GOOD LUCK TO ALL THIS YEAR!!!

There is one side effect. Call it buyers remorse or even fisherman's shortcomings, but have you ever looked into your tackle box and said " why the #@$# did I buy that?!!!". But then, there is some very effective therapy. Get out there on the lake and catch 'em...then it's all forgotten.

You sound like me back in my Bass fishing/tournament phase.:D I had to have every new lure and gagett made. Now it's simple for me. I use Umbrella Tubes in about 6 colors and plain unpainted leadheads. My Crappie fishing is simple find the depth brushpile they are using and drop my confidence lure(jig )in. You'll find a lure you have confidence in and if presented to the Crappie correctly they usually will work.:D

    Hey Crab - Welcome.

I've done some fishing in OH. Lived there for 4 yrs. Where are you getting crappies there?

Warning!! From a fellow tackle addict. Eventually you'll find just a few jigs that will catch fish in your local waters almost all the time, and once you learn the proper methods for crappie fishing they will probably end up being plastics since your fishing northern waters and probably natural lakes. Your gonna end up with boxes full of lures you never use. (like me :D)

I've been fishing Chautauqua lake most of my life and something I've found about northern crappies is that they aren't real fond of spinners. I've tried road runners up here many times and I just can't get crappies to bite on them like they do in the south.

If I may make a couple suggestions from a northern perspective. You mostly have what you need judging from the pics.

Just that Crappie Assassin box is gonna get you a long way. I kill up north on BPS crappie beavers. Get the chart. colors for cloudy water and the natural colors for clearer water or sunny days. Get a few more Kalin triple threat style grubs/twisters in the same color patters as above(bps and southern pro makes real nice ones too). I do particularly well with chart/red/green combos or just chart/green or smoke and natural colors. I like Berkley micro tubes too in dark green and also in chart/green. You might want to get some white berkley wigglers or the new white gulp maggots or especially the new white honey worms look good for tipping jigs. Tipping works especially well when still bobber fishing.

If your fishing somewhere like Pymatuning or Indian lake there is a lot of cover naturally to fish, but if your fishing a southern style reservoir or deeper waters where there is less cover then some of the plugs and spinner baits may work better, and you'll have to concertrate on structure more.
Good things come to those who bait.

Well your off to a good start, fishin is a good addiction, Buying lures, jigs and other fishin equipment just supports the addiction.
