So, say a guy had some X-mas trees. How do you prepare them for drowning? Do you let them half rot or work the needles off, thin them out? Or, do you sink em as fast as you can? I've got a pile of them that I can burn and roast weinies for one night or I can fish over them for about 9 months before they rot. What say you?

Smile, it kills time between disasters!
Just sink them as fast as you can before you are out of the notion so maybe the fish will be on them by spring.
Be safe and good luck fishing
