Nice job, that COLD makes it way easier for me to say I'm going home!! LOL
i would start off by saying my buddy got a new rig . or at least new to him . i think its 2 years old and he put a brand new 60 Suzuki on it . so he is still doing the 5 hours er so of break in on it . we managed to kill one hour of that pretty easily in a 5 hour trip on lake Fork . The fish there were less than cooperative and out of 8 or 10 locations we found only a few hugging the bottom in 34 feet of water .
these particular crappie fish seemed to like a bubble gum and chart triple tail on a 1/8 oz pink head . managed a few other fish as well here and there but only a few crappie total . all the fish that we did manage were in water around 35 foot . the only other colors that fish wanted seemed to be blue and chart and none of them were crappie
the winds were supposed to be rather mild yesterday but the lake was white capping when we got there about 9 am . the weather forecast was 0 to 1 mph thru noon .....sure sure whatever
and at around the high 20 degree range when we first arrived it pretty unpleasant to say the least . first fish in the boat was a larger yellow bass and when it dripped on the floor it turned to ice instantly . we moved around some and i called a guide who lives on the lake for more advice on where to look for some crappie .he gave me some rather specific information on a slight drop off and we found the crappie there a bit deeper than he suggested .we got a few ideas from another friend who lives there as well , he manufactures Thermocline Lures and lives by the 515 bridge . one thing for certain the loons were struggling to find some fish as well . every stop on that lake a loon would show up and circle us with that i am hungry look !
no big fish of any kind were involved and i think the channel cat i managed was the longest fish of the day
after about 5 hours of a beat down we called it .....
tucked our little tails we did and went on back to some warmer surroundings with MOSTLY air in the fish box ....
sometimes it just is what it is ,,,,and sometimes it was what it was .....and it was CCCOLD

Y'all are tougher than me fer sure. Not a bad trip for tough conditions I would say.
Every day is a holiday and every meal is a picnic.
Wow! Nice catch. I love to fish but the older I get the easier it is to stay home when it is real cold outside.
Be safe and good luck fishing
i'll go in that cold but it is more likely I'll go with some one who knows where they are in the cold. Hey ketchn, when you're holding that cat is the fin we can't see in between your 2 fingers?Cats bring me anxiety every time they come in the boat.but some times they are the only thing biting. It was a great catch in those conditions.
