Most of the fish I used to catch were 9-10" and had to go through a bunch of short fish.
I have been fishing vertical on structure that is in 18-28 ft of water all on main lake points. Been fishing 3 different points and all of them have had fish on them for the last 2 months. If the lake patterns hold true to past years, they should be on these spots gorging themselves until the water cools to below 60 degrees and they head for deeper water. Saturday water was 68-74 degrees. I understand the small fish you are referring to. Last year this time, literally every fish I caught had to be measured. This year has been a totally different story. Only had to measure 10 out of the last 300+. We have been releasing 10in fish lately. ALL have been caught on minnows. Some guys have luck with jigs at BCL, but I am not one of them. The only time I throw a jig is when they are shallow spawning. I tried 4 different color jigs a couple weeks ago. My 2 boys were catching them on minnows as fast as they could reel them in and I could not get a bite on the jigs.

Default More from Big Creek Lake this weekend...

Just had to go back again Saturday! Took my dad and a buddy Saturday morning. We caught 75 and kept 55. All of them under 10inches were released. Biggest one was 15 1/4. Got home around 10:30. Still biting when we left. I am still shocked that more folks are not fishing Big Creek Lake.
Most locals refer to Big Creek Lake as the "Dead Sea". There is definitely a learning curve but it is well worth it if you live in the area and like to catch crappie.

Default Took my 5 Yr Old fishing buddy yesterday after work....

Been catching them like crazy lately at Big Creek and my little buddy asked me to take him....so why not? Got on the water at 4:30 and left at 6:15. Kept 35 releasing numerous fish under 10 inches. Biggest one was 14. Put out bamboo top a couple weeks ago. Decided to take some sonar and downscan pics to show difference. The downscan shows the bamboo top lit up like a Christmas tree. Notice the cylinder block at the bottom. The entire right side of the bamboo top is fish. A few above as well. Must be over 100 fish there...can't wait to go back! Fishing with my dad and boys is a gift from God. Extra special watching him reel them in. I tried to get his pic with one of the big ones. He wanted his picture with the small one he got to release. How funny!

Default Got them again Thursday afternoon....

Took an older gentlemen who taught me how to fish BCL years ago and my 5 Yr old fishing pal. Kept 45. Released around a dozen or so in 2 hours of fishing. The bite was EXTREMELY good with lots of doubles and a few triples. Fish seem to be getting smaller as the water temps drop a little more. Now catching more in the 10-12 inch range that we were a couple weeks ago but the number of fish is holding about the same. Had 10 in the 12-14 inch range. I expect numbers to start falling off in the coming weeks leading up to colder water temps. Fish are super tight to structure. You can be a couple feet off the "spot" and won't get a bite. But if you are in the "spot", better watch all your rods closely.

Default Another FANTASTIC Day on Big Creek Lake

Took my dad Saturday morning. Very foggy with a front approaching. We fished from 6:30-11AM. 38 keepers and released a dozen or so undersize ones. Tried jigs for the first time in quite a while. Never had much luck on jigs, but got a tip from a guy at the ramp a week or so ago who had obviously had too much to drink. Otherwise, he would not have been sharing his "secrets". Caught over a dozen on jigs Saturday. Minnows were still the best bait, but it was fun trying something else.
