I have found the trilene knot to be high strength and has that advantage of double line around the eye.Its a little harder than the improved clinch knot and maybe the palomar to tie,but it really works good for cinching down tight on the eye to hold the angle you want. I too find it hard to tie a difficult knot on the water and get frustrated quickly if its too hard. Another thing I have experienced is some knots and lines actually cinch down easier and tighter if you don't wet them, the dry line is actually slicker. However, you have to cinch down SLOW...if you pull to fast the friction can heat the line. That's how you end up with the little squiggly part on small line above the knot sometimes, its the heat that does it and it will also compromise the knot strength. I really like the rapala knot for a loop knot. Not to hard to tie once you get the hang of it.

I'm still looking for the perfect leader knot for 20lb power pro to 8 lb Spider wire super mono. The double uni is the only thing I have found that works at all...nearly everything else I have tried the power pro cuts through the mono.

Yes, on the improved clinch knot. 5 loops and back though.
