Anyone use Power Pro?

I use the 10/2 also but know some people that use the 20# stuff as well. I like it just fine, but am trying out the new spider wire ultra cast as it's is supposed to be the best now and here is what is said about it...

Ultracast is simply the highest quality braid ever made. It has the highest pick count in the industry, meaning that the weaves per inch are the highest. This line feels like a mono because the weaves are so high. The process used to make this line is similar to the Fireline process. While Firleline uses thermal fusion to make the line, Ultracast uses a cold fusion technology.

I am also trying out the new Fireline Crystal in the 6#.

and have only had a few "problems" with it. None were enough to make me stop using it.
I have had a few wind knots, on occasion ... but, that may have been due to using a "med" action rod - windy conditions - and my tendancy to 'snap cast', even with light baits.
I bought some lo-vis green 8/1 ... but, don't use it because I can't see it :rolleyes: (but, I do like the 10/2 yellow, very much !)
Depending on what the rod guides are made of, especially if they're metal, you will get a "singing/buzzing" noise thru the rod. Ceramic guides do not seem to transmit this "sound", quite as much.
Being so limp and light ... the slack line (from rod tip to water) will blow in the wind alot more easily than mono. Even so, you can still "see" a hit, as well as "feel" the hit ... due to the low stretch factor, and braids tendancy to not retain memory coils.

Like I said ... not enough of a negative factor, in any of these cases, to make me not use it. The outfit I use it on, is primarily my Roadrunner casting outfit. I rarely even have to set the hook ... usually all I have to do is pull back with the rod, and keep reeling, and the fish are stuck good. No need to jerk back with the rod as the low stretch of the line and the med action stiffness of the rod are all that's needed to plant the hook firmly in the fish.
Most other jigs I throw are weedless, and the RR's are not ... and with the 10lb test strength of the PowerPro, I can hang my RR's and still expect to pull them free; most of the time !!

Just be sure and put mono on about 1/2 to 2/3 of your spool's capacity, tie the PowerPro to that, and finish filling the spool (to within 1/8" of spool lip). This will do two things for you : One, it will keep the braid from slipping around on your spool arbor. Two, it will allow you to use less PowerPro (saving you some $$), and you can fill more reels or one reel more often. Though, I haven't had cause to change the PowerPro, yet :p as it is still in good shape, and as strong as ever.
The yellow color has faded, but is still more easily seen than clear/blue mono. And if it became necessary, I could always unspool it from my reel and turn it around .... since the underlying line is still bright yellow !! :D

And DO take note of the fact that it WILL cut you two ways (deep & wide), if you try and pull it by hand Best to have something to wrap it around, to pull on it to free your bait from snags !! And I don't recommend using the rod handle, either ... especially foam or cork handled ones, as it will cut into them, as well. A piece of wood, heavy glove, towel, etc are better choices ........... luck2ya ... cp

I mainly use it when casting 1/16oz Roadrunners (which are probably, actually a bit heavier than 1/16oz ... what with all the extra "hardware") and haven't had any substantial or sustained problems with wind knots. Actually, I can only remember having wind knots occur twice .... and both times the wind was blowing 10-15mph or more (you know ... the "variable", in the light and variable winds that the weatherman so often forecasts :D ) By the way - both times I got wind knots, they just came out when I grabbed the line on either side of the knot and pulled ... LOL!!

Shooting docks with it hasn't presented me with any major problems, either.
I even got Paul to purchase some :p ... so we'll see how that works out :D

It ought to be pretty good for "Vertical Casting" (if you ever use that technique :p )

When it "really shines", is on those dead calm days ... when you have to drop your jig way down deep (for those "bottom huggers"). You can almost tell when one swims by it (LOL), and you can definitely tell when one sucks it in !!

It doesn't "replace" my mono ... but it does add another diminsion to my arsenal. ........... cp
