i have seen or used the upper humminbirds i believe the 535, 545 (i may be a little off w/ the numbers) but they are really nice, and easy to use...they are under $400 too. anything over $400 should be in color anymore.

After reading this thread last night I tried to see how deep I can see my jig with the 565 bird. the deepest water was 56' and I could watch a 1/32 jig all the way to the bottom. Amazing! You can just bump em on the head ... ....
theoretically I tried to but never caught a fish while I was watching the jig.

    Default I Like My Humminbirds

I have a Humminbird Matrix 87c that I bought from 1weezer on the bow & a Humminbird 585c on the dash. I have the GPS on the Matrix and love it. I can see my jig at just about any depth I fish. The only thing with the humminbirds that I have found is it is hard for me to get them "tuned" so you can make out the fish real easy. I have however learned what fish look like on my units. One other advantage is tha the mounts on most models interchange so if you replace a unit with another humminbird you don't have to drill more holes in the boat. :D

I have a HB 535 and I really like it. I have a particular creek I started fishing this year and in one spot my 535 would just go crazy showing cover everywhere. I mean there were no breaks in all the cover. Now this area is about 150 X 150 yards in diameter. I thought the unit was messing with me until I went up there two weeks ago during draw down conditions and saw all that cover with my own two eyes. If it says it is there, IT IS THERE! Great unit.

I need some help. I just got my Humminbird 575. The swivel and pivot of the mount is very snug. I got the swivel to move. But I am scared to put more pressure on the pivot (front to back) and I haven't moved it yet. Am I missing a "release" on it? I have to pivot it upright to get the unit to slide on, but it is tight. Should I just pull on it or am I missing some "catch" that is keeping it from moving?

    thanks,

    Dayton

They are usually pretty tight when new. Unless they've started doing something different there is no catch or release on them. With the head off, I would work the tilt and swivel back and forth several times until it gets a little easier. If it's real cold you may want to warm it up a bit first with a hair dryer. Don't melt it, just get it warmed up a bit. Also, make sure the base is mounted to a smooth, flat surface or it could be getting torqued enough to put some pressure on the tilt and swivel joints.
