Anyone been to Alaska?

I lived on one of the Aleutian Islands for over a year 3 decades ago. We used to attach bayonets and spear the salmon out of the stream. Couldn't tell you what is legal today.

I HIGHLY recommend you invest in 100% DEET. Do not saturate yourself, just a couple of drops in key areas will suffice. Good luck and have a blast. Alaska is an awesome state.

I did the tourist thing from a cruise boat last year. But, I think I could have spent my whole week in Ketchican and been happy. Didn't do any fishing. But, I talked to a local I saw coming in with a halibut. He wasn't rigged up much different than the Kelcher girls on The Last Frontier. I noticed he did have a spare outboard in his boat. Have a good time. You will love it. DP

I went on a fishing trip up there a few years ago out of King Salmon , we back trolled crank baits on the Nek Nek river for kings and silvers also fly fished for silvers and rainbows ! Wild rainbow are bad *** fighters on a fly rod !!

My sister bought a place in Ketchikan AK and I'm headed up there first week of July. I am going to fish al I can but I have no clue what kind of gear I need or what to fish with. If anyone has any pointers on what I need to fish with. I'll be fishing mostly salt water salmon and halibut but may try to catch some freshwater salmon and trout. Thanks for any info.
