I had the same problem before i got the new motor (still can't afford an ipilot but i got a variable speed that i can control better) I would turn the motor around and use level one or two in reverse. I was able to achieve the .8 or .9 that i was after. Good luck!

I used to drag sash weights, one or two on either side of the transom. Slowed me down some but had no gps so I can't talk about speed. I was looking for a desired vibration in the rod tip made by the beetle spin I was trolling. Worked for me.

I trimmed, a little at a time, of my prop until I got the speed I was looking for. In fact, I think I had 4 props, of different diameters in the boat. Before that, I ran a 6 hp gas motor that would get down to about .6 mph.

When I first started trolling it was with a 5 speed 43 pound Motorguide on a Tracker Pro Team 165. I had no idea how fast I was trolling. 2 was to slow so I ran it on 3. I achieved my desired depth by using different weight jig heads and how much line I let out. Find a flat bottom and try different weights and length of line out to see how deep you are actually trolling. Good luck.
