    Simply unscrew the drag knob on top of the spool. I don't have that particular model, but I do have a couple of 750's, 2500 & 4000. And they all come off the same way.

    It is a 2000. You are right about what you said about the reels you named. The 2000 is a rear drag and there isn't any knob on top of the spool. Your post is incorrect as it pertains to the 2000. I have one and had the same problem until I figured it out. You fully tighten the drag then rotate to entire spool in the direction the arrow points to on the skirt of the spool. The is one piece not two like the reels you reference.
