I was fishing a small lake in central florida one day when a whole school of crappie came up jumping out of the water. A few seconds later the reason for the jump surfaced and it was about a 10 foot gator. Would of loved to had a movie camera on that.

When they get that big, they fight like a bass!! In late summer, I started catching 13-14" crappie and the strike & fight were powerful!

There will always be levels of fish excitement, from zero to super aggressive. School crappie can be the most aggressive and once one is hooked, I can throw the fish back into the school and still catch fish after fish. I've found that this applies to all predator species that school. So much for the old fish tale: don't return a fish to where you caught it because it will spook the rest.

I seen them surface feed a lot usually in the evening I've also seen them miss a crankbait and come clear out of the water like a great white hitting a seal lol Try a nite bobber with half a crawler on a light wire hook at night in the summer when you see them surface feeding it is a blast
