I usually replace the line before the new rod is used. Probably not much wrong with the line but I prefer hi-viz line myself.
Wal-mart and various sporting goods stores sell a lot of rod & reel combos and they usually come with fishing line already on them. I was wondering how many people actually leave that line on and use it. I have always stripped it off and put new line on it, but is it really necessary?

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
I don't buy combos anymore. One piece or the other is cheapened to make it "a good deal". Either the rod or the reel. I put my own combos together. When I used to get combos with line on them 10 years ago, I would strip the line off.
The line is the link between you and the fish, why trust the line on a $19.98 plastic reel?
Replace it
Better to put the line you trust than to trust the line you bought with no name. Put your brand on to save time later replacing.
USAF Retired and fishing!
I would replace, but agree with others you are better off making your own combos.
I replace because I have MORE CONFIDENCE in STREN or SPIDER WIRE line. ALways have confidence in what you are using.

Most of the time but not always. I bought an ugly stick combo that was pre-spooled with Stren. I used it a few times before I changed the line. I prefer to change the line, but I don't alway get time or remember to do so before I'm on the lake.
I'll always replace whatever comes on a new reel.
replace it, what comes on most reels is the cheapest stuff they can find just to say it's pre-loaded.
