    .

A couple of years ago I invited a friend (who is an avid fly fisherman) to go crappie fish with me on my boat. On the lake we were catching crappie and I noticed that he was using some expensive looking fly fishing gear. So I ask " what do those nice Loomis rods cost?" " about $600" was his reply. "And that reel?" I ask. 'Oh, it not top of the line....it was a bit over $500".

I was amazed. "Are you telling me that your rod and reel cost nearly $1200 plus high dollar waders and the rest of that costume that fly fishermen wear just to wade in the creek? .

Without a moments hesitation he simply ask "How much did this boat cost?"...

If it gets much worse, I'll have to start looking fer a 12-step program somewhere.
Every time I click on this site to check out what's up...my hip pocket draws up.

Yeah, there could be a warning about the "Monkey Virus" that infects some people on this site. It comes in various forms, and is really bad in early Spring ... after a long period of cabin fever. Some of the more potent versions are known as :

    The "Bait Monkey"
    The "Equipment Monkey"
    The "New/Newer Boat Monkey"

These infections can have a devastating effect on one's ability to function, until "treated". Treatment can get expensive, depending upon how deeply bitten one is and/or how deep ones pockets are. There is no known cure, but a frugal mindset can hold back some of the expense of treatment.

Yep...and some of those "Monkey Virus" infections originate from a passle of posts signed by one CrappiePappy.
What with the detailed, helpful "how-I-do-it's" and the "I-use-this-and-it-works-fer-me" posts around here, my list of gotta-gets is longer than my...errr, her bank account.

I've got the Monkey on my back also. It sets in badly when I can't get out on the water fishing. I'd bet my spending on fishing gear doubles/triple in the wintertime. See picture, read story & spend the money. Thats the cycle I'm currently caught in.
If I ever got my wife involved we would go completely broke.
