I was jigging in a cove of stumps and snagged one. I used my standard flailing left-right, up-down on the pole to free up my bait. The reel broke free first. This was using a 7'6" ultra lite rod and 4# mono. I'm thinking it was a bad run of composite material that created a weak spot. Something else should have broke first.
Never saw anything like that before.
This may help describe what I think was the culprit.
Reels are like most stuff you buy,if you look real close you will see made in China.
I get mad every time I see it ,but what do you do ?
Thanks again to all for the feedback. Solicited the same from my buddies and guys on the water. I don't have a lot to spend on gear, and I try to find the best value "without the hype". Discussing with good folks like yourselves helps me be a smarter/better buyer and I appreciate the wisdom.
Here is what I decided to purchase:
For casting jigs/cranks for crappie and walleye:
Pflueger President 6930-- will hold a full 110 yard spool of 4# with room to spare (improved casting) with strength to hold 6#, and also engineered for braid
7'6" ML St. Croix Triumph series-- optimum mix of fast action/backbone and length to take up slack on long casts; stout enough for MS river walleyes
For casting jigs and slip-floating crappies and gills:
Pflueger President 6925
6' L St. Croix Triumph series-- a week ago my buddy and I went out and he abused big slabs and bull gills with this setup; rod makes a beautiful "C" ark when the lunkers come over the side!
Thanks again fellas!
Kyledgerunner,
I agree with the made in China statement. I am a life member of NAHC, and a member of NRA, and they both have a tendency to support products made in China. I recently received a "signature series" knife from NAHC, and it was beautiful until i turned the blade over and saw the MIC. I sent it back; complaining about the use of Chinese products with so many reputable USA cutlery makers.
On a related note, it is good to see that BUCK knives are AGAIN being made in the USA. This trend is gaining momentum in the manufacturing sector, and sportsmens' selective purchasing/boycott of Chinese sourced/assembled products will continue to drive this change.
Bottomline is if you are looking at Wal-Mart, Cabelas, BP, Sportsmansguide, Gander, Scheels, etc..., please make sure you read the fine print and think about skipping the items labeled "Made In China" or "imported" if you can afford it. Pay particular attention to retailers private label items (Guide Gear, etc...) as these are the HIGHEST margin/most often imported products.
Those sound like some nice combos!
Be sure to report and let us know how you like them!
That sure would be going back to the store or the company!!!!!!!! Absolutely has to from a bad batch of frames. Hope they stand behind it!!!
