I like size 4 sickles in black, with size 2 a close second. I generally prefer 1/16th, but will use 1/32 when the bite is slow and up to 1/4 when vertical jigging.

Caught my personal best (a black almost 15.5") on a 1/32 with a size 10 aberdeen hook while fishing for bluegill, though. Hooked it right in the button at the edge of the fish's top lip.
    Don't worry, catch crappie.

I am a bit different than most because in summer I still jig fish, but I do add a minnow. I tie a Gamakatsu Drop Shot (finesse) type hook with a Palomar knot with a very long tag line. After that #1 or #2 hook I pass the tag line back through the eye of the hook one last time so when I pull on the line that hook stands up right. Then I tie on a jig, usually a 1/8 or 1/4 oz.

i do mostly use a #4 Sickle hook on he jig.

1/0 sickle 1/8 oz or 1/4 oz if using a jig (just depends on the water)
