I'm not really sure either. Why not P.M. Rango and ask? I feel sure he will be glad to help or at least point you in the right direction.Originally Posted by exit 84
I read an article in crappie world mag that talked about a drop-shot jig method of fishing brush piles. It didnt show a good picture of the set up.
Could someone post a couple of picture of a drop-shot jig.
Thanking you in advance.

I use something close to that. Here is what they mean....
Tie a Jig on and then above that tie on a hook with minnow (using a Palomar knot or loop) or I guess you could tie on a jig there too, but during the summer I use a minnow on top and a jig below when I fish at night. That is the only time I use minnows.
The real drop shot rig is where bass fishermen take a hook and tire it on with a long tag end (like 12"-18" long tag) and then they clip on a drop shot weight on the long tag end. SO you have a hook with small worm on and then your weight is 12"-18" below that. The opposite of a Carolina Rig.
Sorry no pic though!
I use a drop shorig with a 1/4 ounce weight on the bottom. For the hook I just use a gold crappie hook with a YUM beavertail 2" threaded on.

If you replace you 1/4oz. weight with a 1/4oz. jig then you would be using something like he's talking about and that is what I use during the summer nights. It also give you 2 baits that a fish can hit and I have caught one crappie on each at the same time too.Originally Posted by rockjawjohnny
OK here is a pic of my rig used on the last night trip. Hope you can see it. The only difference in this and a drop shot rig is that I am using a 3 way swivel and the drop shot is with both hook and weight in line. I out the hook through a whit piece of foam so you can see it. Also that is a 1/4oz. jig on bottom.

This looks pretty neat. When you have a jig, say, 2 feet from the bottom jig, how does it not slide when a crappie bites it? Along the same lines, how does it stay in place? Hard to tell from the picture.Originally Posted by crappiequeennc

you can also use a hook that is tied to your main line and is angled to stand out away from the main line, I think they are called stand off or stand out hooks, I have seen them in a local shop for bass fishing but I am sure they would work for crappie also
tie your hook on the line about 4 feet from the end. the weight will go on the end of the tagged line. Your hook will be 4 ft from the weight, if you are fishing in a weedbed this will let your hook stay above the weedline so the fish can see it. Hope this helps
