i dont think it will take long....the outside is not smooth...just the inside.......i have found it takes a bit for it to form on the pvc tho.............a few weeks..

How long do you think it takes for algea to start to build up on those cans, with the slick surface?

I let the stuff sit in the weather a few months before I "plant" it. Sun takes a lot of the slick out of the plastic. Not sure about the algae.
