The closest the to getting help for this addiction is to attend a support group of fellow crappie fishing addicts. I suggest you check into a Crappie. Com camp or shindig in your area. Welcome to the board from Illinois.

Thank you for the warm welcome from everyone and Enoneye I will have to take you up on the offer, I am from the Circleville area south of Columbus. I do have a question, when did crappie fishing get so big and popular. Growing up in the 70's and 80's it was all about bass fishing and if you were lucky enough you might get a charter on Lake Erie for walleyes, maybe that was just an Ohio thing. I am amazed at the draw and interest of this fish, maybe the fact that the taste so darn good has something to do with it.

When I started fishing for crappie 35 or so years ago I thought you had to sneak down the bank to a fallen tree and throw a minnow about 18 to 24 inches below a bobber.

Wow, thanks to Crappie.com and youtube I found out you can fish from a boat, with a jig or even a double jig, with or without bobbers. Crappie can even be caught in 20+ feet of water by trolling and jigging. Holy crap why didn't anyone ever tell me this before. And the topper of all, crappie get bigger than 9". Man oh man keep feeding me this info guys.

P.S. My wife is is a little hot that I can't stop buying new crappie rods, reels, jigs, cranks, rod holders, hats, shirts, sunglasses, decals and the list goes on. Can you ever have enough stuff to crappie fish. I feel like a kid in a candy shop.

Yea, I think it's all about how you were raised (what type of fishing). I cut my eye teeth on trout (western PA) and walleye (Misquito and Pymatuming in Northeast Ohio). Got into crappies a couple of years ago just to switch up and the challenge of learning a new fish. Plus they're GREAT on the table, IMHO better than even walleye. We've got an excellent crappie reservoir here in Springfield, CJ Brown. Give her a try and good luck.

Welcome from Alabama. I suffer from terminal fishing pox. It is highly contageous to adult males once you start crappie fishing. The only therapy is making your own soft plastic or hair jigs to keep from spending so much at Cabelas. Now you can just spend the money on the materials for the lures you make. Check out DIY plastics forum to learn how. I moved here from Akron nine years ago because of the crappie down here. I have thrown many 12 inch crappies back. Mostly I target crappie in the 13 - 17 inch range on the lakes down here where I fish.
