i use the empty red plastic folders coffee containers to make the ice i use when fishing. drop 3 in my fish cooler and one in a smaller cooler for drinks and head out. upon returning home, wash them off with the hose, refill, place in freezer, and ready for the next trip. in the summer i also take a couple small frozen water bottles to keep bait cool. i haven't bought ice in years.

Each to their own but with an aluminum boat it is hard to keep a bunch of fish alive even with pump running after it gets hot. I like to use my livewell but carry a cooler full of ice after it gets real hot or on a long trip. I hate to clean fish that have been on ice too long, pefer to get it done on the same day.

WE HAVE A FREEZER HALF FULL OF SHERBERT/ICE CREAM .5 GALLON BUCKETS . RUN A LITTLE WATER OVER THEM TO POP OUT THE ICE . FILL UP AND PUT BACK IN FREEZER BEFORE LEAVING HOME . THREE OR FOUR WILL LAST ALL DAY WITH NO PROBLEM . AND READY TO GO AGAIN BEFORE YOU GET BACK . NEVER PAY FOR ICE .

I always have a cooler of ice. That is the way I learned and I have been fishing over 65 years. If it ain't broke..I don't try and fix it.

I use the 64 oz juice bottles. Fill them, freeze them, put in cooler with fish, after getting home Clorox the outside of bottles and put back in freezer. Do not empty bottles. 16, 20 and 24 oz soda bottles also work great. So much cheaper than buying ice. Am going to try that thing with the sherbet containers except I have several 6 qt ice cream buckets.
