Welcome from Alabama. I have tied my own jigs and now I make my own soft plastics. I am always fishing a double rig of some sort most often the "One More Chance" rig. This allows two different lures at two different depths. You can place a Marabou on the bottom and a soft plastic on the top. Then see which one the crappie prefer on that day. When you have your pattern it will be easy to switch to all soft plastic or all Marabou.

Well Super Bowl Sunday and the week after we just killed them on 1/32 Oz marabou Roadrunners while some of the local guys used soft plastic in their favorite color and didn't catch any at all. I am sure someone probably caught crappie on something else, but I don't know them if that was the case.

While most here were still fishing the famous deep spot the Chicken Coop we were fishing 5' to 9' of water and doing great! I also learned a couple years back that at these water temps a good little Kip tail jig is also killer. I just have a hard time taking off something working to see if another (a soft plastic) is working.

Love the perch pattern! Wish I could find something like that for early drop shotting. No one seems to sell small perch pattern plastics. At least I haven't found them.
