This is all you need for jig heads, I myself have been tying for about 10 years and at times help others out... Check my web site wwwjigumjigs.com

Check www.barlowstackle.com for materials. They have the best materials at the best prices. Also you can get materials from ebay in lots at great prices.
You can get marabou feathers from craft stores and dye it any color you want. This will cost you a tenth of comercial marabou feathers.
I tie my own on my web site www.southeasttackle.com if you need any adivise call me or email me. [email protected] 205-393-3758
Good luck - Brian.
Most of what I use is medium or #2 size. Just get the regular clear head cement The cheap one with the Black & White label is fine. Also get some thinner because as it thickens you will need to thin it back.Originally Posted by crappiekid24
Hey,
I tie my own jigs, I can't make them fast enough to sell, but I keep a large number on hand for me and Roybouy. I wouldn't go ape buying lots of materials and supplies before I tried it out and seen how I liked it. I get a lot of materials from barlows. I like their powder paint. I heat the jig head with a lighter dip it in the powder and presto! it's painted. You then put them in the over to cure, but be sure to clean the eyes of the hooks out before curing. Be sure to get some flash-a-boo (shiny stuff). I have had real good luck with squirel tail hair. I take my time, make a good jig that will hold up and won't fall apart after the first catch.
Let us know how you do.
LET IT RIP!
I purchased the BPS kit and have enjoyed it so far. The kit is very good if you are stuck learing on your own. However if you can borrow the video or have someone show you first hand how to tie. Take the 50 bucks you would normally spend on the kit and buy the materials you want and buy a little higer quality vice. Barlows and Netcraft are good sources for materials and fishy memories for the jig heads. Have fun.
for head cement you might consider going to the dollar store and buying a cheap bottle of clear finger nail polish. also you might try the advice of our friend from tuscaloosa, ala. and shop around craft shops for materials to get started with, such as marabou plumes, rit dye in your favorite colors, and knitting yarn in various colors to use for body material. i have used a lot of knitting yarn in place of chenille and the fish do not know the difference. also, for head paint, you can use the water base acrylics found in hobby stores or in the arts and crafts section in some stores. when you use the nail polish to seal the thread on your jigs, you can also put a coat over the acrylic on the head to protect it. i don't know how much $ you want to spend to get started, but to get set up is not cheap. i would cut corners as much as i could while trying to get started and learning. good luckOriginally Posted by crappiekid24
