The big difference that I noticed was the amount of fish hooked in the roof of the mouth instead of the papery outsides. I started pouring a couple of years ago and never bought any regular hooks, but I did buy 7,000 sickles in different sizes. Much sharper.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I use sickle hooks and nothing else. As already mentioned, it is very rare that a fish isn't hooked solidly in the roof of the mouth with them. The rate of losing fish getting them to the net and in the boat using sickles is almost nothing because of the solid hook ups.

Use them year round jigs and straight Aberdean style for minnows.

I prefer them over any other hook. I will say it seems my minnows seem to come off easier due to the smaller barb on sickles. I just hook them a little more in the hard part of their nose than I used to. Even with lost minnows, I prefer the sickles. It seems I straighten them out better than regular hooks too. I loose way more regular hooks than I do sickles.

I prefer sickles, but litewires are best in brush.
