And any young fish that gets too close, crappie, bass, bluegill and baby catfish are some of what I've heard of being found in the stomachs of cleaned fish.
Crappie are not choosey and will eat most any fish or insect that fits their mouth. Number one food here is Shad .

Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
This time of year I would have to go with maggots from a dead deer. Wounded animals will go to water. Deer probably died, flies laid eggs, maggots hatched, water rose and crappie feasted on the maggots.
These are bigger than maggots could be some type of grub or maybe baby minnows that are being dissolved in the stomach. They all had them. It was in Guntersville up one of the creeks. We have a lot of trees in the water from the tornado i am thinking it maybe something growing on them like some kind of fungus!! We are planning a trip this morning as long as the rain or snow holds off it's 23F this morning. It will be a little cool going up river.Cub48

Do you fish mud creek often? I am headed there in March for a week.
We fished Town Creek this morning. The weather was tough this morning as well as the fishing. We fished about 4 Hr's in the snow and rain. We brought home 20 keepers may of caught 40 in all. I have Bass fished Mud Creek but have not Crappie fished there. I fished up as far as Jones Cove but it's been a while. We fished South Sauty until it got cold enough for the Crappie to go into the creeks. Then we moved to Town Creek and have been fishing the tree tops. We did very well this fall and winter the fish have been a good size this season better than last year. Last week we started catching more small ones but there were some good ones in the mix. Up until then we would only have 2 or 3 too small a day.Cub48
