leeinmemphis--------- i have a new merc. 15 hp 4 stroke made by tohotsu that , so far, is a gem. it's everything i need in a 15 hp and more. i even went the extra and got elect. start. i understand the 9.9 is same engine, different fuel system. good luck.

Here is some additional information ... Evinrude is planning to build the E-Tec series in much smaller sizes. Currently, the outboard selection starts at 40HP. The future intent is to have E-Tec outboards all the way to the smallest size and phase out the Johnson line completely. If you really want a two-stroke outboard, you should consider waiting a bit longer and see just what the 2007 lineup will reveal.

Just thought I would mention this. 2 years ago at a 10hp lake here in Indiana the DNR was checking serial numbers on boat motors and catching those 15hp's disguised as a 9.9hp. I don't know what the fine was or what they was doing to those they caught. We was using a electric trolling motor with our big engine tilted up, so we had no problems at the check out.
    If I fished a 10hp lake a lot I think I would invest in a 9.9hp.
