I've always considered it a "jig" .... if it has a lead/metal head with a hook protruding from it ... regardless of what the hook is covered with. If the hook is bare, I usually refer to it as a "jighead" ... then qualify it by what I put on the hook : hair jig - feather jig - tube jig - jig/minnow - etc.
If it's a plain hook with a plastic body threaded on, and no lead/metal head on the hook .... then, no, I don't consider that a "jig", either. I'm not sure WHAT I'd call that

I have tried several different types of jigs but I always go back to the white jigs the crappie always seem to bite them. My dad has used them for years and he always catches moore fish than anyone else in the boat.

1.75" Fin-s shad in bloodymary, arkansas shinner, and limetreause have been my go to for the past few weeks in tidal water. Use with a 1/32 oz jig head worked slowly under a weighted bobber from shore.

Thousands of fishermen=thousands of different answers. You might as well have asked everyone who their favorite fantasy girl is.
