A little update on my Rod and Reel Selection - This morning I ordered / purchased 8 12' Pinnacle Rods from Grizzlyjig.com and 8 Optimax 101 they had on clearance. After watching video after video and reading countless threads this seems to be the easy and most cost efficient way into the Spider Rig. Tonight I will head to Lowes and purchase all the items needed to build my new Spider Rig System. I'll post photos of my progress.

My Rods and Reels will be here on Thursday, just in time to go out and try Spider Rigging for the first time on Saturday!

So, here are a couple of questions I have. I plan on putting High Visibility 10/4 Braided Line on the Reels, I was thinking since it's not like I'm going to be casting these things and the deepest I'll fish is probably around 30' or so. Would it be smart to put some Filler Line on the reels first and then spool up about 30 Yards of Braided Line per Reel?

I am planning on using the Capps and Coleman Rig (3 way swivel technique) for my Spider Rigs. Does anyone have any "Home Made" Rig Keepers I can make. I'd like to go ahead and get these things pre-tied before Saturday.

YES !!!! ANY 'old' line (mono) that you have, can be used to fill the spools up to 1/2-2/3 full .. then tie in your braid.

Many members buy the "pool noodles" & cut them down to make "rig keepers". You can often find them on sale at the local "marts", or at a "dollar store" type place ... usually in the $1-$3 each range. (an Advanced Search for "pool noodle" should give you several threads to view, on how these are made & used)

I fill mine with cheap mono and then spool on about 50ft of braid. You can use pool noodles or I made a bunch by getting a length of 1/2 in water line insulation and a 4th stick of 1/2 in PVC. I cut them in 8 in prices. Put insulation over PVC and tape at ends with electrical tape. They are a lot easier to store. I just bougt a storage system from TJ's tackle web site that's is the cats meow for storing rigs. Might want to look at that as you get more into this.
