    Welcome.

I prefer shorter rods for slip bobber fishing for numerous reasons. I have two rods I use the most. Both are Berkley Lightening Rod IM6, Medium Light action, one 5.5' and the other 6', both have Shimano reels, 500 and 2500 respectively. The short rod with the 500 reel has 4 pound mono-test and the 6' rod with 2500 reel has 6 pound mono-test. I use pre-tied slip bobber knots and #4 and #6 Aberden hooks respectively. I use the 6 pound with the lighter hook in the brush, when I get snagged I usually can pull the hook straight, simple bend it back, saves me time retieing all the time.

Questions, keep asking. No question is a dumb one, and no one has all the answers.

X10 for Sam's Supersensitive series of rods! I use the 7' most of the time as I'm casting a lot. But I have wished for a 9' model at times.

I started using a B & M 7' 11" float and fly rod by Jim Duckworth and a spinning reel using slip floats, #2 hook and a small split shot with minnows. I really like this set up.
