    Older boats were made using cheaper materials where they could be used. Newer boats are all composite or aluminum.

    This is true...especially the last sentence. Its what drives custom boat businesses. And believe me, once youve gone thru a few boats that tore up or didnt quite perform or lay out quite like you wanted...people are very willing to pay for what they want..especially for quality.
