Almost missed it, even though I have the DVR set to record any "new" Big Bass Battle shows ... seems my DVR thought the 2nd show was a "repeat"
Anyway .. I just happened to be flipping channels & saw it coming on, so I recorded it ... and it was the 2nd Dardenelle show.
So far, so good ... pretty entertaining. While I know it's got to be pretty hard to get more than 10mins of actual fishing/instructions in a 30min show ... and while knowing that you want to be catching fish & the people watching want to see you catching good fish --- what I'd like to see is something other than the spider rig method. Not all of us are set up that way, and not all of our lakes/states allow for that type of fishing (some have rod limits, some have standing timber all over the place). I also realize that Lake Fork & the Arkansas bait people are sponsors ... but, not everyone tips their jigs with a minnow -- so how about challenging yourself & going with jigs only ??
Not all of us can afford a couple thousand $ worth of electronics, couple hundred $ worth of pole holders, or a dozen ea of 12-14-16ft outfits .... what would YOU do, if you were forced to fish a lake WITHOUT those things ?? Say you could only have a low end depth finder, 3 outfits each, & no live bait ... how would you approach the lake under those restrictions ??
Just out of curiosity ... are all the shows going to be on lakes around the Ark/Tx area, or are you going to (eventually ?) expand your boundaries ??

In a less serious train of thought .... I keep waiting for Kelly to smack your hand, when you reach over & grab "her" pole & set the hook, then hollar for her to get the net Rofl Rofl Rofl

Hi there CP !!!
Thanks so much for shouting and giving your opinion of the show.
To answer you there would be nothing better that I would like than to make a "Back in the Good Old Days " Crappie Show just for you on your home lake or any lake that
you would like. I would use some of my antique cane poles that my grandfather and I used when I was in my pre teens as well as that old black cat gutt line. I have custom hand made baby shad made from leather and hand painted that my grandfather made for us to pitch and swim around the stumps here at my home lake, Reelfoot. We hooked those leather shad through the eyes with a gold eagle claw crappie hook and soaked the leather in real shad slime in our fridge. I could also use a Reelfoot Lake Boat or my Gheenoe with a custom fit sculling paddle to manage the boat position . I could teach you how to triangulate and line up to find particular underwater structure and use our old "Doodle Bug" for finding and measuring the depth or underwater "bedding logs". A "Doodle Bug" has a flat float and peg system spooled with # 9 tarred Nylon Twine and a custom shaped lead ball which we made by melting lead and pouring it into a hole in the ground for shape. For sure, I would love to holding the old cane pole in my hand one more time.
I can get this done just as long as you can find the cash or find sponsors with the cash to pay for it. Just let me know your idea if you think we may be able to pull it off. It would surely get some attention and also document the distance that the sport of "Crappie Fishing" has traveled in the past 30 years. I have surely lived through the biggest change that this sport will ever see.
Good Fishing ,

Excellent "two part" show! As a tournament angler, I can say I learned or confirmed a lot from the show! I think the tournament added to the excitement of the show, and had me looking forwarded to Part 2. I have a bachelors degree in marketing and understand the sponsorship piece, and giving that knowledge the show is a perfect balance. Like anything, you'll never make everybody happy, but as I've said before, finally having a crappie show is a breath of fresh air. I look forward to tuning in in the future!
Wow Thanks HT !!
It is surely a juggling act to catch fish and be respectable in a tourney on a new lake and at the same time make a show for millions to see.
Hope we get the opportunity to do many more. As you have indicated the sponsors determine the limits of the show. If you have any great marketing ideas don't hesitate to let us know. We want to make it huge and better each time for everyone who shares our sport.
Thanks,
Ronnie Capps
Love the show! I enjoy watching almost any fishing show as long as they try to teach you something, I'm not much for the "watch me catch fish shows"! Keep the good info coming and even this old coot may learn a trick or two. Thanks!
