    +1

I have a 5' B & M Sharpshooter that I have a Spinning Reel for Dock Shooting and a little casting during the Spawn. Outside that, all of my Jigging Rods have Baitcasters Reels. Spinning Reels have the loops slip off when bail is open, unless new line stays on the reel. The Baitcasters line goes on straight, and comes off straight. I just loosen the drag, to where I can pull ine off the reel, but still is tight enough to reel in crappie. I have 3 baitcasters that has had 10# braided line on them, and has had the same line on for 2 1/2 years.

I fished Spinning Reels for the 1st year, and struggled with the loop problems steady. Won't be doing the Spinning Reel thing anymore, unless for casting. Just a personal thing I guess.

Another advantage of the baitcasters is the you can pull the line out, this helps with keeping track of your depth. You count pulls and when you catch a fish you do the same number of pulls when you put your bait back out to get you back at the same depth.

Here is a really good video that covers some of the advantages to using baitcasters on your jig pole. The part about the reels starts at about the 4:35 mark.
