Bass pro comes out with a new line of rods. First time they appear in the catalog for 89.99 it says "Was 139.99". When? They are new. Shouldn't you have to sell some at 139 before you claim they are reduced? At least advertise them for 139??

Well, it just goes to show Ya, We don't know what the real value of a lot of this stuff is. It all comes down to what You can afford and getting the info on the items before purchasing on sites like this. Not a dang thing we can do about the big wigs except not buy from them. I guess it just goes back to basics. If a rod is $139 or $89, bottom line is are You will to lay down a Benjamin to buy one or is it just not worth it? That is the power of the consumer.CF

Not to steal the thread but check this out. I was at Dick's Sporting Goods last week looking at buying a new pair of waders. They had a pair that was on sale from $149.99 to $119.99. As I was looking at it I saw a XL on the very top that had a basic $119.99 tag on it. I thought well that looks exactly like the ones that are on sale. I pealed the sticker off the $149.99 (reduced to $119.99) to reveal a regular price tag of $119.99. I didn't buy the waders because it made me so mad that they would do that...

It's a marketing technique. Same as the $.99 in $139.99. I guess companies think $139.99 looks cheaper than $140.00.
