Keeferfish, you are sooo right on wakes being smaller on plane. I fish out of a 1448 jon boat and I hate when a big 25'+ cruiser comes up and sets down and throws off a 5' wake trying to be polite. Either sit down a ways off or keep on keepin on.

Was fishing Milford lake in Kansas, a jet ski came in between us and the dam. We where bass fishing the dam, mind you now we hadn't seen another boat for an hour. We gave our best one finger salute ( we new how to do that as we were both stationed at Ft. Riley). He turned around to do it again. My buddy tied on a 2oz sinker, I fired the engine up. As he came by for his second pass, my buddies aim was true, and he connected with side of the jet ski. Made a nice hole! We chased him up the lake till we lost his wake. May not have been the smartest thing to do, but we didn't see him the rest of the summer!!

I would much rather have a "bigger" boat just blow through at a reasonable distance than to try to set down and run half throttle.

Hats off to those who will stand their ground.

Glad you had a great day despite rude people. Thumbs Up

As long as you understand you are responcible for your wake, just do like you want ! But if you can't show a little consideration for others reguardless where they are on the lake, and can't afford to pay for the damages you cause ,maybe golf would be better for you.....
In your own words RUDE IS RUDE,but you may be special!!!

No really sure I understood your special comment? I’m very considerate of others but automatically get a bad rap for having a bass boat and a 200 is all I’m saying. You can be rude in anything, jet ski, jon boat or even a crappie boat. Again ALL Boats make smaller wakes at FULL SPEED! Maybe you can teach me better etiquette?

As far a s the golf comment .... if you don't want your house hit by golf balls don't buy a house on a golf course????

I have two methods of dealing with inconsiderate boaters on the water. If they are buzzing by and I cannot read their registration numbers, I use a 1 ounce and a slingshot. If they try to crowd me out of my fishing spot or are in a position where I can read their registraion numbers, I simply pick up my portable marine radio and report them by Registration Number to either the County Sheriff (for small lakes) or Marine Police (for larger bodies). Marine Police are very good about coming through an area looking for trouble makers.

Frustrating issue... I run into all of these issues every year while out on the lakes. I just figure the people who crowd you out just don't know any better and they figure that where you're catching is the only place to do so. Up here (in a particular shallow lake) there's only so many deep holes througout the lake so if you're fishing for saugeyes that's where they're going to be and it's expected that a large amount of boats will be in the same area, probably a little different than elsewhere. The key is being friendly and understanding everyone wants to catch fish and after all it is a public lake and a free country. The ones that get me are when I'm slow trolling and someone runs over my lines and cuts them. These are usually either a skee boat or the fore-mentioned 250+hp bass boats. I mean if you're coming in behind me close enough to cut my trolled lines don't they think that may be a little too close? The bass fishermen have given themselves a bad reputation as a result of the bass tourneys and the way they come and go out of and into the docks. PersonalWaterCraft is another pet peeve of mine and they are usually wreaking havoc inside of the bouy lines. Unfortunately you'll never see the no-wake areas being enforced up here in Ohio unless there's no other boats on the lake and I'm the one creating the wake.

"Can't fix stupid." is so true. Can't fix those who are being jerks. There are some people who are down right ignorant. If people are coming off plane when they approach another boat, then they obviously are TRYING to be considerate. They may not realize they need to come all the way down to an idle. Otherwise stay on step. I make a point to tell em. Don't get me wrong, I can get fired up like the rest but I keep my cool. I wave to em to shut er' down. Then explain to em. Some take it in stride and some give me the what for. Educating young people the RIGHT way helps as well.

As far as other folks crowding me, I will make a comment directly to them. If they don't back up and give me some space I move on. I crank up right there. Let the engine run a while, pack up, make a little racket in the boat and take off. MOST of the time I never have an issue because I don't have anybody fishing close. I would rather go where nobody else is, find enough to eat instead of fighting everybody to catch a limit and be uptight and frustrated. When I'm on the water I want to relax. I almost NEVER fish on the weekends because of that reason. I always have fish to eat and some in the freezer.

Doing something vengeful doesn't accomplish anything but increasing my blood pressure and the chance of having a flat tire when I return to the launch. I'm not saying ignore the problem. I'm just not gonna create a new one.

Like my buddy says, "Inspect what you expect and you'll never be disappointed."
