90% of the fish are in 10% of the water, sure helps find the 10%. No point fishing empty water!

Even with my 2D units I'm always looking for bait and/or fish. I basically longline troll and there's not much sense in stretching out my lines if there's not evidence of any fish around. I dont always see the fish but if the bait's there the fish usuaklkly aint that far away.Thumbs Up I use the GPS side of the graph to keep me over a channel if that's necessary (sometimes the fish are scattered over flats so I dont need the GPS features).

I use mine for both. But here lately I've used them more for finding fish in open water.

I have only been a serious crappie fisherman for a couple years and I have to say that other than the spring season, catching crappie would be a lot more frustrating without a fishfinder, My home lake is similar to a previous poster in that it doesn't have a lot of channels to locate fish... Mostly it just has sunken brush and fallen trees that have been there for a good long time, it is much easier to eliminate unproductive areas by looking for fish on the sonar other than spending a lot of time in each area... There are a good many crappie fishermen on the lake in the spring when the fish are shallow but when summertime shows up most of them seem to quit, most folks who are catching crappie that time of the year are using the fishfinder to find them and it seems to be more productive to me fishing the cover where I can see the fish on the sonar as opposed to just fishing cover on the bottom.

I Feel They Are Invaluable For Finding Structure And Fish. Especially As Mentioned Earlier When On New Water.
