I have a MinnKota Deckhand 40.....been using it for 6 years now.....I love it.
Has anyone used or have any recomendations on models. Seems from what I read people either love or hate them. I would want one that drops anchor or freespools, why waste battery power lowering anchor. Just trying to decide if it is worth it?

Always shoot for the moon, if you miss you'll still be among the stars.
I've wondered about them too. I would like to have 1 because I hate getting all the mud in the boat every time I move. I used to keep a bucket in the boat just for that purpose but, it always seemed to get in the way. I can sometimes get the sloppy goup off but, that TN red clay almost has to be sprayed off an anchor. Do they ever "back lash" when the anchor hits bottom or is there a funtion to stop it from free spooling when it does hit?
I have 2 Minn Kota 40 Deckhands on my boat. No back lash. The motor stops when the anchor hits bottom.
They dont freespool down....but dont pull many amps while going down.....Good to have on boat.....

no back lash it has a anti drift when it hit bottom then you can let anti drift stay on it will feed line when needed or turn it off to stay in one spot you will love it.
