Have no idea what it is but it would look good on a hook.
Can anyone tell me what kind of bug this is. It was on the wall along my front walk over my flower bed. It's approx. 1 inch long. Those are not eyes on the top of its head but a camo pattern made to resemble eyes I guess.

An Eyed Click Beetle. The eye spots on on their thorax are just decoration not real eyes.
When they are upside-down they arch their body and then suddenly straighten it.
This action makes the click for which they are named and tosses them into the air.
If they are lucky they land on their feet and don't have to try again.
They had a picture in this little write-up and it looked exactly like the picture you posted.

Moe then 800 species of the Click Beetle (Eyed Elater) can be found in North America!!!

You can hold them in your hand and they will click back and forth trying to get away
I bet a bug that clicks and moves back and forth would be good on a hookOriginally Posted by IBNFSHN
You're at the western edge of that species, as they aren't native west of the Rockies..The click beetles we see around here are more slender and a dull brown without the big eye spots. It's pretty cool to see them jump. - Roberta
