    bearclaw,
Before you go and use a pad on them, go by any truck stop and get some aluminum poliosh. There are all kinds, but some of the easiest stuff to use is called Mothers polish. It is a wadding in round can, don't take much and easy to use. Also some liquid polish, but it gets harder to use. When you get it polished, and it turns dirty, wipe off with clean rag. I used to take a clean dry rag and dust it with flour, and wipe it down again.

Don't use epoxy as a top coat if you paint them . . . epoxy chalks badly after being out in the sun. Use epoxy primer, and a Urethane top coat if you paint. There is an aluminum primer sold by Wurth that is an etching primer that also works well and is designed for priming aluminum.
Or use the Mothers and just hit them every week or so =)
