To many color combinations out there now. By the time you figure out a color combo, they change on ya. If ya ever do figure em out. LOL. I take about 10 different colors and if they don't hit one of em, I go home!!!!! I have found out however, they will hit the one you fish with the most, sooner or later.

    WHAT HE SAID.

My buddy made Bass spinnerbaits for years and made them by the thousands whatever color someone ordered. But his for personal use were unpainted. I use only unpainted leadheads but cover them with tube baits .

Keep it simple, unpainted. Painted eyes or not? I don't see any difference here, either. Just my opinion.

Well I am 100% convinced that painted jig heads make a difference to the fisherman. BUt, I don't think the fish care at all! `

LOL here we go again. I think this is the 3 or 4th time I've seen this question but it always brings up good stuff. I carry both - but I've seen times when one outfish's the other so there must be something to it. Easiest thing I can say is, keep trying different things till you find what they want.

I will say one thing though - even if you go with plain heads get some kind of clear coat on them whether clear powder paint or epoxy because they will oxidize - I pulled out an old tackle box and found 25 pony heads that I had just thrown in the box and they were covered in white lead dust. Rinsed them in vinegar then water dryed and then painted. Any that I don't get painted right away I vacume pack so air doesn't get to them.

Fishing plastics plain is all I ever use. Hand ties I powder paint the heads but that's probably more for me than the fish.

Default To paint, or not to paint

My most popular hand tie is bare lead headed. Most of the heads I use with plastics are nekked also. I do like a minnow shaped head to create a more realistic profile that I use quite a bit. They are also thinner and fall just a little faster. I keep a few powder painted heads of different size and colors for the days when us jiggers have to dig deep into our bag of tricks to get em interested. Dark colors as well as bright have, on occasion, put a few extra in the boat. Black, brown, dark green, and a pumpkin brown are some of what I carry. Black w/blue flake is one that has gotten my interest lately, darker in color with blue flashy glitter. Does well when the blue/white combo is working. But truth be told, 95% of the time there's an unpainted head on the end of the line.

Like Fatman we have been down this road before many time on this site. Personally I have see the time where it makes a difference and even a difference from one color to another even when the rest of the jig is the same. SO it's a pick your poison, but if all are unpainted you are limited as to what you can put in front of a fish. I paint most of mine, but even if someone ask for unpainted I still clear coat them to do just what Fatman said, stop them from oxidizing.
