It has the recessed front deck with livewell, 3 across seating, and at times the rednecks and their discussions:D. I've got an Excel 860 Crappie that I really like. The .125 hull was one factor that set the Excel apart IMO. There are a lot of good prerigs out there. It's just a matter of price and personal preference if you ask me.
Yes, good point. If I were buying another one and I would I would look on the used market. My 180 is a 2006 and after reading this thread and looking at my boat I have decided that lowe made this a crappie boat but didnt really market it that way. Two front livewells, 3 front seat spots, Bait well and dividers in in the rear livewell. I can easily seperate 5 different sets of fish with 2 in front and 3 divided spots in rear well. Also it is super wide up front and will fish two big guys around 300lbs side by side with plenty of room. I hadnt really thought about it before but after looking at the layout of the boat they must have been thinking more about the crappie fisherman than the bass even if it is not called a "crappie boat". I have also noticed that the seats on mine are a lot higher quality than my friends 2004, and the new 2008 I looked at a few years ago. So I either got lucky and bought a 2006 with upgraded seats or maybe they were all that way?

    Good luck.

I'm sure you got the fat redneck option also? Lmao. Wasn't talking about YOUR boat. I was talking about the Xpress with the dual livewell etc. I put the not there because everybody thinks THEIR boat is the best there is. No harm meant.
We only sell the Best. Ranger, Xpress, Yamaha, Suzuki, Tohatsu.

I think to answer the original question that started this thread would be to say "what is special about a crappie boat" to YOU, may be different to ME, or the next guy. That depends on lots of things like they style of fishing you do or the type of water you cross to get there most often, or specific designs that you always wished someone would do.

Have any of you thought of a totally custom hull? Getting it the way YOU want it costs a bit more, but you are done with it.

A custom hull would be very expensive. The title "crappie boat" is just that. The crappie boats I deal with have a more comfortable , spacious, user friendly floor plan without the step in the center like the traditional bass boat has.
