    Lightbulb Docks and brush piles

I see it as the docks on a public lake as being private but the water is public. Would never tie to someone's dock and would never fish around it if they are out at the dock.

The same goes with brush piles. You build a brush pile it is in public water any one can fish it. I build them every year, if some one is fishing it before I get out, fine. I should have gotten out quicker if I wanted to fish it.

I am looking forward to building more this winter. I go around collecting every bodies old Christmas tree with my boat trailer. My wife has learn to live with this even if she thinks I am a little nuts and go a bit over board building them. She likes night fishing on them during the summer times.

I look forward to the winter when the water is down so I can see where other have built brush piles and stake beds. Looking to get a GPS this year to keep track of them better.

I live on a lake and have a 20' X 20' covered deck with a 30' walkway out to a 16' X 16' floating pier. My deck begins about 5' past my property line and the whole thing is on state owned land and water. This is the normal situation on this lake. I fully understand this and I never have any hard feelings about someone fishing near my pier. If you really got down to the legal aspects of it, anyone could probably tie up and get out on the pier if they wanted to, although this has never happened to my knowlege. The only problem I've ever had was, a guy pulled up in a boat once and started fishing a top at the same time my daughters were fishing the same top from the pier. He probably felt that he wasn't in their way, but he was a stranger to the girls and they quit fishing and went in.---Pooch

Had experience on KY Lake where PVC Stake bed in shallows and is normally showing above water line. Was fishing early morning and I think the fellow taht set out the bed sent his Lab down for a swim. Needless to say catching turn to fishing...LOL. Now when ever i go down I'm going to make sure to at least check out the stake bed. Like has been said if you don't want others fishing your bruch pile or stake bed buy your own lake.

Sometimes I have had owners that tell me exactly where they have planted brush. To my way of thinking that is what it is all about. Enjoying fishing and helping others to enjoy it as well.

i forgot to mention that this happened on lake of the ozarks, and if anyone has fished there you would know that it's almost impossible not to fish around docks (especially in spring and fall).
like ranger, i've also had people tell me where they put their brush piles. also, i do the same as you guys, when a person is fishing off the dock i stay clear. i would never consider tying up to one and especially wouldn't touch or move anything on or attached to the dock. that's just common courtesy in my book. of course in some people's minds common courtesy would include not fishing brushpiles that they sank. oh well. thanks for the input from all of you

    Default Hey Don G.

The fishing has gotten better, but still not what it was last year this time. The bigger fish have moved in shallow, but the numbers are still low. I will get to go fishing tommorrow and see if things have changed, and let you know.

I know the Lake of The Ozarks very well and know how rude some of the land owners are. I try not going there to fish but it is so close me here in Rolla. My wife will not go back on that lake after the big boats about sunk us once.

Knowing what lake u are talking about, u just better get use to it. This lake all the dock owners think that they own all the water around there dock. There is a dock up around the purvis beach area. That has the nick name "rock dock" because the guy will sit at his house and throw rocks at his dock if fish near it. If you are up that way you cant miss it, its cover on the roof with rocks. Also there has been some heated battles with owners and fisherman. To the extreme of shooting a gun over there fishermans head. By the laws in this state, he cant do anything to ya. Only can he do something is if you get on his dock or touch it. But also not all dock owners are this way, I have meet some very friendly owners. But there anrnt to many out there.

Yes, I know about the friendly ones to. Have a dock owner (on Bull Shoals Lake) invite me to dock my boat and come sit with him and fish from his dock and drink his beer.

You guys can fish around my boat dock anytime. I know who owns the water. We all do. The docks are private, but it is on public land (water). Nothing dock owners can do about it except bitch. Some of the dock owners have more money than they have good sense. I know a few of them. We all must exercise common courtesy about such things. I have had bass fishermen throwing stuff around the dock as we sit and CRAPPIE fish. I am always polite. I just consider the source.

    My two cents
