In the lakes I've fished in the past, here in Pa., and in Md, that was always the sign of crappie or whatever were putting on a good feed... All you had to do was figure out what color and lure to use and let the mayhem begin...lol HTH

Thanks for all the replies. I still think they were crappie feeding. I've only seen this on calm water and early in AM or late in PM. This is in North Central Wisc. area. I'm going to take a video camera along with me, as I usually see this happen at least once every time we are up north fishing. Again, thanks and if anyone else has anything to add, interested in your input.

I would say if your wanting to catch them and their not hittin anything, try throwin something that is the same shape and size of the shad. I fish a large resevior(Raccoon Lake) here in Indiana and the white bass, stripers are usaully whats boiling the water and the crappie will be mixed up with them but they are always alittle deeper. It seems like the crappie follow these schools of fish feeding on the surface and will be there alittle deeper picking off the wounded shad that are sinking. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck Panfish16
I fish a pond and the crappie in it comes to the top . Like many others say I don't know if they are feeding or what but I know it's crappie cause I can throw a jig as soon as they hit the top and catch them. I've never seen this happen in the lake.
A crappie day fishin beats working any day!!
