Here is the skinny on planer boards

**** IF YOU THINK THIS IS AN AD PLEASE DO NOT READ ANYMORE GO TO NEXT THREAD*************THIS IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ANOTHER CLUB IN THEIR BAG SO TO SPEAK*****************************

ALSO IF YOU CANT SAY ANYTHING NICE MOVE ON TO ANOTHER THREAD... I AM TRYING TO HELP PEOPLE CATCH MORE FISH

I have fished for crappie for over 30 years....Last year i learned about longlining and spider rigging and caught 1200 crappie in the spring.. Every year i try to catch them a different way because its just the way i am made up.... I get bored pretty easy so i like to do it a different way every year..... I dont just crappie fish in the spring i catch them all year round but all i do in the spring is crappie fish nothing else from march 1 to mid may all i fish for is crappie....

Planer Boards are for people who enjoy trolling.. if you are a die in the wool tighliner or float n jig fisherman you probably wont like it.. you may but i have found most dont...if you enjoy sprider rigging or longlining you will love it and this method will be your go to method....

Fist off their are several advantages to the boards...

    1. once they are deployed the boards move away from the boat so you are fishing an area undisturbed by the motor and the boat..

    2. you can fish at any depth no matter what your speed because the board works as a float to keep the bait at the desired depth..

    3. because of this depth control you can stop, make fast sharp turns, and not get hung up.

    4. The boards will keep your lines apart so you dont get hung up.

    5. This is the biggie: when i got into longling i had to buy all new 12-20 ft rods.. this is not neccesary for pulling boards.. you can use any rod you have and get the same result because the board creates the space between line not the length of your rod.

    6. its much easier to watch the board at a distance than it is to watch rod tips on both sides of the boat and getting a crick in your neck..

Ok now as far as trolling pull your favorite jig or grub at your favorite trolling speed. the distance i have success is 4-10 ft of line behind the board depending on where the fish are. you have to play with it and figure that out.

this method works when the fish are feeding in coves or bays.. you wont catch as many when they move to the beds. but you will catch them after they move off again... i have caught them in 2 to 20 ft of water using this method.... i run 8 boards or 8 rods at a time.. i have rod holder on each corner of my boat and i fish 2 rods from each corner...
i prefer an 7-8.5 ft rod paired with a 10ft rd on each corner. when the boards are set they will v out and have a formation like geese flying in a v.. i adjust line length to make sure each board is running and covering a different piec of water than the board in front of it and behind it...

its really fun and produces fish of all sizes.. the biggest fish i caught this yr was 3.2 lbs and the smalles was pinky sized.... i caught them in the back of coves and in the the mouth of main channels.. i mainly pull southern pro hot grubs and i use hi tek rod holders...

its fun not for everybody but if you like numbers it a great way to fill the freezer...

Good deal, looks like plenty of bigguns mixed in with the numbers! I've played with this idea and even contacted thhooker a couple weeks ago. This must be played with!

on a normal day here we dont keep any that are less than 12 inches long... here on our lakes we have a 10inch limit and a 15 fish limit....but we self impose a 12 inch limit on almost everyday....gotta make sure there are plenty for next year and years to come Thumbs Up

the one negative pulling boards is when the wind get about 9-10 mph you might as well pick up. when that hapens i usually look for cover where i can get out of the wind....

I didn't see it as paner board ad, but the first thing that I noticed was a potentially large violation of the state possession limit. Just callin em like I see em, boys.

This is from the (Forum Posting Rules and Etiquette) Lets not cross that fine line.

Do not advertise in your posts. This is a fine line and difficult to administer. You can mention a cool new product, or an ebay listing, or your wifes new embroidery business, but please do not turn it into an advertisement. Also, if you’re brand new to the site even that might be considered advertising.

To me and ad would include prices and link to the website of the product? I read it and thought that's a cool idea, and a new technique that I might want to learn. Good description of the technique. I've heard of guys using them, but hadn't had the full detail that you gave.

Thanks for the information, sorry that you got bashed.
