What do you use to clean the gunk and grease out of your disassembled reels?
Thanks

be careful using brake parts cleaner it can eat up the finish and some plastic parts. The non flammable kind is a little more forgiving. My favorite would be a little charcoal starter fluid.. All ways use chemical proff rubber gloves so you don't get sick and die. Don't forget you're eye protection as well. electric parts and conector cleaner is good to but to me it is the same as the none flammable brake parts cleaner.
Mineral spirits in small glass bowl and a acid brush or small stiff bristle. Paint brush. Clean parts then I spray good with starting fluid. The starting fluid will cut any residue from mineral spirits. Neither of these will harm plastic parts or finish. Just remember starting fluid is dangerous inside. Lube gears with any of the good real greases and I use hot sauce oil on bearings and shafts.

use NON-CHORLINATED (spelling) brake cleaner.....also works great on semi auto pistols...... but it has to be the non-chorlinated stuff, other wise it will eat away finishes.......have a great one, God bless!!!

dawn dish soap and hot water. i stay away from harsh chemicals as it will eat the plastic and paint up. been doing reel repair for about 15 years now and no problems at all.

I use WD-40, wipe it all down and oil and grase lightly
alcohol. pour some in a bowl and put parts in it. put together and oil. been doing that for over 50 years and it has worked for me.
I also use WD-40 to break up the grease and crud. Then I flush with warm water and use a hair dryer to blow out any excess moisture. The reel is now ready to be properly lubricated. Grease on the gears & oil on the shafts and bearings.

Dawn dish soap and an old tooth brush. Dry fully and then lightly grease and oil. Too much grease and you'll clog up a reel quickly.
